Curriculum Director


JOB FUNCTION:  To assist the Academy Director with the organization and administration of the Academy to meet the educational needs of students as stated in the Academy Board’s policies and established curriculum.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Shall hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or College.
  • Shall have 30 semester hours of graduate credit inclusive of a Master’s Degree.
  • All administrators whose primary responsibility is administering instructional programs shall meet the certification and continuing education requirements as described in MCL 380.1246.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Shall have a minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience in education.
  • Ability to provide leadership in educational planning.
  • Ability to organize and administer personnel, program, and facility use.
  • Ability to function effectively in a management team setting.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Knowledge of the growth and maturation patterns of elementary and secondary school students.
  • Subject to a Criminal Records Check, as required by Academy Board Policy.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Report to the Academy Director concerning the organizations, operation, and supervision of instruction, staff, and program.
  • Assist with the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff and evaluate efforts of staff toward achieving school improvement.
  • Maintain records necessary for completing authorizer and State reports.
  • Plan and evaluate professional development of the staff to promote skills needed to carry out an effective school program that reflects Board policies.
  • Oversee and schedule all standardized assessments.
  • Develop and evaluate the curriculum program and materials for students in all grade levels.
  • Seek and organize active parent involvement and support of the Academy’s program.
  • Assist in the development of Academy-related extracurricular activities for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Academy Director.

Elementary Spanish Teacher

 

REPORTS TO:  Academy Director or his/her designee

 

JOB FUNCTION:  To teach Spanish to elementary grade students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Shall hold a Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited university or college.
  • Shall hold or be eligible for a valid permanent or provisional teacher’s certificate in elementary education from the State of Michigan.
  • Shall hold a State of Michigan elementary endorsement (Minor in Spanish required; endorsement in Spanish preferred).

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Ability to organize and administer lesson plans.
  • Ability to function effectively on a team and work within an agreed upon instructional plan.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Background in Spanish language education.
  • Knowledge of the growth and maturation patterns of elementary and/or secondary students.
  • Subject to a Criminal Records Check as required by Board Policy.

Special Education Teacher

 

JOB FUNCTION: To work with students in the K-8 program that experience emotional, learning, and physical disabilities, and have been diagnosed as needing special education support as determined by an IEP team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Shall hold a Bachelor degree or better from an accredited University or College.
  • Shall hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in Special Education or be eligible for temporary certification as a Special Education Teacher.  
  • Shall hold the required State of Michigan endorsement for the teaching position held.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to function effectively with general education teachers to meet the needs of special education students.
  • Ability to organize and administer lesson plans.
  • Knowledge of the growth and maturation patterns of elementary and/or secondary students.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Subject to a Criminal Records Check as required by Board Policy.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement the program outlined in the students’ IEP in a least restrictive environment.
  • Implement professionally accepted curriculum, instructional methods, and standardized evaluation.
  • Assist in the preparation for the student’s annual IEP.
  • Assist in the preparation of three-year evaluations.
  • Maintain complete and ongoing records for all students.
  • Maintain a log of parent and community contacts.
  • Maintain a comfortable learning environment for students, whether in a pullout or inclusion setting.
  • Adapt materials of the K-8 curriculum to meet the needs of students served.
  • Demonstrate creativity in reaching, challenging, and exciting students’ learning,
  • Utilize strategies and techniques to modify unacceptable behavior.
  • Utilize technology to promote learning.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in dealing with confidentiality issues.
  • Demonstrate ability to write appropriate behavior plans.
  • Keep updated on issues and research by pursuing professional development.
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of disability areas in special education with specific knowledge in learning disabilities and emotional impairments.
  • Assist with the coordination and supervision of paraprofessionals, if employed in the special education area.
  • Perform other duties as required by administration.
