Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is the application of strategies and systems to increase academic performance and safety, decrease problem behavior and establish a positive school culture. The PBIS process is a team-based approach that relies on a strong collaboration among families, school personnel, and members of the community; all working together to provide a continuum of support for all children. Our mission is to promote a positive and safe climate that enhances academic, social and emotional development.
PBIS benefits:
Enhanced school climate and safety
Increased student achievement
Increased child’s self-esteem
What is PAWS?
P = Practice responsibility A = Act Respectfully W = Work Together S = Safety Matters
The acronym “PAWS” was developed to help remember the expectations. Our school expectations were designed to promote proper character development throughout life. Elementary students’ citizenship marks are self-explanatory on the report card. Students in all grades explore the six character pillars throughout the school year. The goal is for students to make sound decisions and to act less on impulse.
We encourage the students to:
Accept the consequences of their own actions.
Accept the basic standards of good citizenship such as integrity, trustworthiness, respect and service to others.
Develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes.
Develop an appreciation of school and community to foster a culture of good character.
Stand Up to Bullying
Annually, Holly Academy observes Unity Day to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion, and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. We offer “Stand Up To Bullying” dress code approved shirts that work perfectly for Unity Day, or we allow students to wear orange on that day.
